The Yoga Farm
Region: Southern Pacific
Description: Our Yoga Center offers visitors a truly unique traveling experience. We are a simple quiet peaceful retreat facility with basic comforts - we are not a spa, we are a destination for those who want to visit a location that offers pristine virgin rain forest and clean beaches with few people on it, except for the occasional local Costa Rican fishing and a few visitors. One advantage of the area is that it has little night life and shopping, rather it offers the opportunity to go for hikes in the rain forest, horse back trips, cultural visits with indigenous families where they can learn traditional indigenous crafts and see beautiful wildlife. You will find our facility to be simple, clean and comfortable.
The style of yoga we practice integrates many different forms of yoga asana. Guests look out over the rainforest and ocean and enjoy a soothing ocean breeze in our hardwood floor open air yoga studio. Our location is in a valley surrounded by primary rain forest with a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean. Our region of Costa Rica is considered to be one of the most biologically diverse in the world, and guests frequently will see and hear tropical wildlife. Our location is home to several species of monkeys, parrots, toucans, sloths, iguanas, and an abundance of other animals.
The Yoga Farm is also dedicated to wildlife conservation research and rehabilitation. We currently sponsor a Spider Monkey research project in order to study this endangered primate with hopes to restore the population of this primate back to healthy numbers. The Yoga Farm is also working to expand our conservation work to help restore other species and habitats.
The Yoga Farm is also a working farm, working daily towards self sufficiency. So you will also be in a place that has people working on our gardens, grounds and buildings. There is little development around us, the beaches have few people on it, there are no big hotels around, basically no shopping or night life. The nearest banks and Internet are in Pasa Canoas or Golfito (2-3 hours away).
You should also have a minimal level of fitness as we live in the mountains and there is a brisk 15 minute walk up a dirt road from the beach to The Yoga Farm. You definitely don't need to be an athlete to visit us, we had a 70 years old woman who visited us, she walked to and from the beach daily and enjoyed her visit a lot and in fact returned several months later to visit us again. We ask that people refrain from drinking alcohol or taking drugs on the Farm's property. We welcome people who want to enjoy a drink or whatever to do this at the beach, local bars or restaurants.
The Yoga Farm is for people who want to be surrounded by breathtaking nature, go for hikes in nature, practice yoga, eat healthy food, spend time at the beach - basically it is a place to unwind, slow down, breath lots of fresh air and re-connect.
